Because Valentine’s Day is so soon after the holidays you may find yourself strapped for cash and fresh out of gift ideas. Of course, a beautiful bouquet is always a great way to go, but if you’re looking to supplement those flowers with a little something extra, there are many options available that won’t break the bank. Here are a few:
Breakfast in bed
If your significant other is the one who usually does all the cooking, take the pressure off of them on Valentine’s morning and start the day by serving them breakfast in bed! Extra points for creativity in the kitchen —make Mickey Mouse pancakes or serve eggs and bacon arranged in a smiley face. Just the gesture alone will bring a smile to your love’s face. If you are looking to make something a little more sophisticated there are endless recipes out there to chose from, given a little search. Include a note expressing how much you adore and value them with the meal, and if they’ve gone through a big positive change this year, such as getting sober, share how proud of them you are. You can choose to read it to them or allow them a few minutes alone. After they’ve finished eating, wash the dishes (more points for this) and return to bed for some snuggle time.
A photo album of the times you’ve shared
Photos are another great way to express your sentiment. Typically, most people tend to have more than a few photos of themselves and their significant others on their phone’s camera roll. You may have some cute pics of your honey sleeping that they don’t even know you took! Not only is it fairly inexpensive to print photos, it’s also a bit of a near lost art form that will definitely be relished and appreciated. There’s something about being able to physically touch a photo that provides a sheer sense of nostalgia. Arrange the photos in a nice photo book, then go through the pictures together. Share stories and really take the time to reminisce while flipping through the book. The memories that the photos stir will make for a very heartfelt moment that will present itself every time your love goes through the album.
Time
In this day and age a lot of time is spent working, going to the gym or just away from home period. If you find that most of your days are spent away from your special someone or that the only time you get to spend together is after work, when you’re practically drained from your day, then the gift of time is perfect. Arrange for you both to take the day off and just be in each others company. Slow down, turn off all the electronics and rely on nothing but conversation and affection. Lounge in bed or cozy up on the couch with a beverage of choice. Guaranteed this one day of putting the world on hold will bring you two closer together and remind you both that a little slow down is necessary for the health of your relationship!
Remember, it’s the thought that counts
Please do not make the mistake of thinking that Valentine’s Day gifts have to be expensive. True love is one of those things on which you absolutely cannot put a price tag. Taking the time to plan out something thoughtful and meaningful that is specific to your special someone is priceless. It’s gifts like those that last far beyond Valentine’s Day. Relax, and try not to stress too hard, if you strive to make a memorable experience, you will not disappoint!
